I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

I Know What You Did Last Summer takes place in a small North Carolina town during the Fourth of July. Helen (Sarah Michelle Geller) wins a beauty pageant and goes down to the beach afterward with her friends. The group consists of her alcoholic boyfriend Barry (Ryan Phillippe), her best friend Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and Julie's boyfriend Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.). As they sit and ponder what life after high school will be like the group begin talking about an urban legend about the teenage couple who found a bloody hook near their car. After retelling the story in different ways the group drives home only to accidentally run over an unknown person who was in the road. The group freaks out and instead of alerting authorities, they decide it would be wiser to dump the body in the ocean.

Everyone then goes their separate ways whether it's college or work and they all act as if everything's normal except for Julie. Julie ends up coming home for summer break and is greeted with a mysterious note that reads, "I know what you did last summer.". This note sends pure panic to everyone as they try working together to find out who's messing with them. Turns out a fisherman wielding a hook starts going around viciously slaughtering everyone for revenge. The kills are pretty gruesome with this hook-wielding maniac giving off Scream vibes. The fights scenes are intense especially towards the end where Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt give a heroic showing. The movie ends with a cliffhanger, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats with thoughts about a sequel.
