The popular horror film franchise, “Halloween”, has given die-hard fans mixed emotions about the new trilogy “Halloween Ends”. The new direction hinted towards the crew behind the film not necessarily understanding what made the originals such masterpieces. Director and writer, David Green, has managed to twist the series into something much different, especially with a trilogy finale on the line. However, what goes through everyone’s mind is whether Michael Myers will finally die. You can even ask yourself, is Laure Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) going down with him? One might hope so, but we all know that somewhere down the line fans will receive another taste of an odd spin on the horror series.

The beginning of the movie starts with a new character named Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) who is babysitting for a kid in Haddonfield. After watching a scary movie, the kid runs away to play a silly prank. This leads to a freak accident, killing the kid and giving our new character the reputation of a cold-blooded killer. During the first half, we unfold the story of how Corey becomes more sinister with each scene. He ends up getting bullied by a group of marching band kids and committing heinous acts with his new friend Michael Myers. What threw off many I believe is how Michael somehow passed off his evil to someone else. This is a completely unheard-of idea that leads many to question the original shock factor created by Carpenter himself. Green did a good job of displaying an outcast turning into a sinful monster as the result of a broken community. Unfortunately, this interferes with the fact that we’re viewing a “Halloween” movie. Two ideas tugging upon one another create a somewhat cluttered vision for viewers. Hardcore fans wanting to finally witness Laurie and Michael brawl out will have to keep clinging to that hope.
