Friday the 13th is defining horror movie that kickstarted a long-running franchise. The story begins with two summer camp counselors fooling around before an unknown madman slashes them to death. Speed up 20 years or so and were right back at the same location known as Camp Crystal Lake. Apparently, due to the killings, the lake has been closed for quite some time. A group of young counselors is working together to open it back up while working on simple maintenance tasks. Like most slashers, this one, in particular, seems to have a lot of sexual tension between characters and is one of the leading causes of death in the series. If you want to survive in a horror movie... don't have sex, don't do drugs, and don't say "I'll be right back."

We never get the chance to see who our attacker looks like for the whole movie it's in the POV of the mysterious slasher. He goes around picking off counselors one by one with axes, spears, arrows, knives, and a machete. One thing we learn about our possible attacker is during a flashback scene a young boy is drowning in Crystal Lake while his mom closes nearby. One can only assume the young boy is back to wreak havoc on anyone who comes near the lake. Considering the viewer never sees who the killer is the movie can feel a little repetitive. Each slaying is somewhat predictable and abundant. Overall the film is great considering it's the first installment and shows exactly how the series began. The viewer does witness the killer's mom at the end which is a cool twist but the first Friday the 13th doesn't compare to the many movies released afterward.
