Risks of Drunk Driving

I decided to shed light on a topic that has claimed the lives of more than 10,000 each year. Alcohol has been known as a roadway killer and kills 28 people a day in the U.S. Driving while impaired can also cause accidents that lead to paralysis, disfigurement, and brain damage. Drunk driving is also a crime that can lead to the killing of another person on the road. Driving under the influence is a major problem for students in college as it's the leading cause of death.

Many college-aged students will go to a party or bar off-campus and make the irresponsible choice of getting behind the wheel. The best alternative is to call a designated driver or walk home to ensure nobody gets hurt. To obtain this data I'll be pulling information directly from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other surrounding reliable sources such as Forbes. A simple bar graph showing the number of deaths in the past 5 years is a great way for viewers to track changes over time. I also think implementing a line chart or pie chart describing the age bracket percentage of alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal crashes will help students understand the statistics better. My interview will be conducted by either asking students with their experience of situations they may have been in or heard of regarding drunk driving or heading over to the Slippery Rock Police Department to get a direct quote from an officer. I believe both interviews will give a great insight on the issue accompanied by the informative graphs.
DUI's in Slippery Rock
This pie chart is a great visual to see exactly how many DUI's students have received in recent years by campus police.
Here's a quick video of Lieutenant Gray giving his opinion on drunk driving in Slippery Rock.
